Job Description:

The Financial Aid Counselor, reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, has responsibility for the coordination of financial aid processing for their set population of students, including undergraduate associates, undergraduate bachelors, post-baccalaureates, masters, and doctoral students.

Position Responsibilities
1. Coordinates financial aid for a set population of students, including aid processing, verification, packaging, loan certifications, and loan counseling.
2. Advises students and families regarding financial aid questions and concerns, application questions, document processing and corrections.
3. Assists with phone calls and walk ins as needed to ensure excellent customer service.
4. Works with our Admissions Offices to ensure the proper transmission of information.
5. Maintains a working knowledge of all federal, state, and institutional sources of student financial aid.
6. Meets and counsels’ students/families on issues relative to financial aid sources, outside scholarships and alternative financing options.
7. Collaborates with colleagues across the campus to help to improve services and information to students.
8. Participates in financial aid presentations and open houses as needed.
9. Stays current and compliant on all federal, state and institutional financial aid regulations, policies and procedures governing the financial aid process.
10. Maintains a pleasant demeanor and offers excellent customer service in a sometimes high pressure environment.

Qualification:

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field with at least one-year of experience in a Financial Aid Office and a working knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures. Attention to detail, with an eye toward problem solving, an ability to work as a team player while able to work without supervision, and sensitivity to matters of confidentially are required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, as is an ability to relate well with current and prospective students, parents, and college personnel. Computer literacy is essential with a working knowledge of Colleague and Google products. It is essential that the incumbent exhibits an understanding of, and support for, the University’s Christian mission. The person in this position must be available, when required, to attend training, orientations, open houses, and workshops off-site and via virtual settings.
