Director of Financial Aid
East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Director of Financial Aid! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. As the Director of Financial Aid, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable providing leadership and training to the Office of Financial Aid staff and other ESU staff on financial aid programs. You will be an active member of the Financial Aid team and will work closely with the Vice President of Enrollment Management to Implement policies and procedures ensuring compliance with the U.S. Department of Education, FERPA, state, and university regulations. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your leadership skills and knowledge of Higher Education Financial Aid regulations while setting priorities and promoting the overall vision of the Financial Aid area within Enrollment Services and ESU. To be successful in this role, you must be analytical, empathetic, and able to juggle multiple priorities.
Your typical hours will be Monday to Friday 8 am – 4:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Director. This position includes 25% travel (valid driver’s license or reliable transportation required). What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
Develop, vet, and implement policies and procedures in accordance with the U.S. Department of Education, FERPA, state, and university regulations.
Oversee the administration of the Federal Aid Programs by providing oversight in the administration of the Parent Loan for Undergraduate (PLUS) Loan and Pell Grant Programs, PHEAA Grant Program, Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan Programs, and monitor progress of applications, disbursement, reconciliation, and returning of loan funds.
Provide excellent customer service to students, parents, faculty, staff, and other ESU stakeholders in all matters pertaining to the Office of Financial Aid.
Collaborate with executive leadership, the Registrar, the Director of Enrollment Operations, and other members of ESU to maintain open communication and the development of new agendas and projects.
Serve as a member of the Warrior Team and the Operations Committee to provide input regarding the needs of the Financial Aid Office and updates from the FA Technical Consultant.
Participate in the Pennsylvania State Institutional Financial Aid Manager Peer Group as well as any pertinent webinars and reporting.
Ensure FISAP, PPA, and ECAR are updated as needed and serve as the Secondary Destination Point Administrator for ESU. Oversee the administration of Institutional Scholarship Programs and Alternative Loan Programs.
Train the financial aid staff on the administration of federal satisfactory academic progress requirements and administration of all Title IV aid to include Pell Grants, Direct Loans, and Federal Work-study.
Develop and conduct training and workshops for students on financial aid-related functions, troubleshoot aid issues, and resulting communications for students, parents, advisors, and staff.
Provide excellent customer service using the queuing system and correspondence through e-mail, phone calls, and face-to-face interactions with students, parents, faculty, staff, and other university stakeholders.
Represent the University at orientation, open house programs, recruitment events, enrollment workshops, etc.
East Stroudsburg University
Bachelor’s degree required in a related field, such as business, marketing, etc., Master’s degree in a similar field preferred. 8+ years of experience in higher education, specifically in state and federal financial aid administration; 8+ years of experience working in a higher education enrollment system, such as Ellucian Banner is preferred. 3+ years of professional experience in Microsoft Suite products, such as Excel, Teams, etc. 8+ years of experience in awarding Title IV and federal financial aid programs. 5+ years of supervisory and leadership experience. Ability to provide empathy when working with students and families on sensitive financial aid matters. Previous on-the-job experience public speaking with students, families, or peers. Ability to communicate across multiple departments and individuals to provide information and train them on the federal work-study process. Strong analytical and organizational skills.
