Financial Aid Counselor
The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for financial aid processing and advising for prospective and current students. Reporting to the Sr. Associate Director of Financial Aid Counseling, the FA counselor ensures that students and families understand financial options while maintaining compliance with federal, state, institutional and NCAA regulations.
Essential Functions:
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
Financial Aid Counseling: ensure that all prospective and current students in assigned population(s) understand application procedures and eligibility requirements; work with students to ensure that they exhaust all options for funding their education; provide clear communication on all aspects of the aid process including at new student recruitment events.
Financial Aid Packaging/Processing: ensure that each aid applicant receives a financial aid package that is timely, accurate, and clear; ensure that each aid applicant receives expected disbursements.
Financial Aid Record Maintenance: ensure that each student’s aid record is updated to reflect the most current information/status.
Regulatory Compliance: ensure work is compliant with all state, federal, NCAA, and institutional regulations as directed by supervisor. Review regular reports to ensure compliance in all areas.
Key Collaborations: collaborate extensively with Financial Aid, academic and administrative colleagues to assist new and continuing students.
Study Away Administration: work with Study Away office to process financial aid for students who are planning to study away.
Financial Aid Team Responsibilities: as a member of the Financial Aid team, contribute to efforts related to planning, policy & procedure development, and quality assurance & effectiveness.
Events: as a member of Jefferson Enrollment Management division, provide financial aid support during Admissions events in-person and online, financial aid events as needed
Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required Experience: Previous financial aid experience preferred. Experience in an administrative office setting required. Customer service experience required. Experience with Student Information Systems a plus, Banner experience preferred. Familiarity with MS Office suite.
