Director, Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center

The Pennsylvania State University is currently seeking applications for the Director of the Sokolov-Miller Family Financial & Life Skills Center. The primary duties and responsibilities will be to lead and manage the Center and provide direction, strategy, curriculum, and activities that support students’ success and financial literacy attainment while ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. Reporting to the Associate Vice President and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, the Director leads in aligning the Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center’s mission, vision, and values with those of the Penn State University. This position is based at University Park.

The Director of the Sokolov Family & Financial Literacy Center will administer and direct the strategy and operations of financial literacy programs at the Sokolov-Miller Family Financial & Life Skills Center. This individual will ensure that all programs and presentations from the Center align with the Commission for Financial Literacy by the US Department of Education and Treasury. The Director will work with four staff and approximately 12 student-employees to deliver customized financial literacy content according to identified needs, provide evaluation and assessment of programs and materials, including online experiences, and responsively adjust content, as necessary, to meet financial literacy standards, requirements, and shifting needs of those served by the Center. In addition, the Director will ensure that robust programming is in place to help meet the specific needs of student-athletes.

The Director will manage and build collaborations with academic partners, colleges, campuses, and faculty members to promote financial literacy throughout the university. The development of strategies and initiatives to meet the financial education for marginalized and minoritized populations is essential to the operation of the Center within the context of Undergraduate Education. The Director will chair the Financial Literacy Advisory Board and maintain the strategic vision, ensure the financial well-being of the Center, and oversee essential services such as one-on-one consultations, media communications, website development, and be responsible for the budget of the Center.

A Master’s degree and four years of experience with financial education programs, or a combination of experience and education, are required. Additionally, desired attributes include knowledge of research and best practices in student financial education; demonstrated evidence of successful experience working with diverse populations; a record of successfully collaborating across institutional areas; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; excellent written and oral communication skills; and ability/interest in assessment, research and publication on financial education; experience supervising employees, including student workers; and experience with budget management.
